Abstract

Abstract: Gastric pain is one of the most common gastrointestinal complaints, significantly affecting patients' quality of life, particularly in functional dyspepsia, which often does not respond optimally to pharmacological therapy. Acupuncture has emerged as a complementary therapy with potential benefits, yet evidence in real-world clinical practice remains limited. This study aims to analyze the changes in gastric pain intensity before and after Jin’s Three Needle acupuncture and measure its clinical effect size. A pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach was applied to 25 participants selected via consecutive sampling in a private clinic. The intervention consisted of six sessions, administered three times a week. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), and the data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with a significance level of 0.05 and effect size calculation (r). The results revealed a statistically significant reduction in pain intensity (p < 0.001), with a median pain score decreasing from 6 (IQR 6–8) to 3 (IQR 2–4). The effect size of r = 0.86 indicates a large clinical impact. Most respondents showed improvement, with pain intensity shifting from moderate and severe pain to mild or no pain. This study concludes that Jin’s Three Needle acupuncture is clinically effective in reducing gastric pain in real-world clinical settings and holds potential as an integrative complementary therapy. Further research with a more robust design is required to strengthen the validity of these findings and expand clinical implementation.
